Summer shutdown of the heat pump
Some property owners choose to let the district heating system take care of hot water production during the summer and therefore switch off their heat pumps to reduce energy costs.
But did you know that how you switch off your heat pump can be crucial to its lifespan?
If the heat pump is to be switched off manually, it should be set to standby mode in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Switching off the system directly via the main switch may result in the refrigerant mixing with the oil in the compressor.
When the engine is restarted, this can in turn increase the risk of compressor damage and, in the worst case, lead to a costly compressor failure.
Has the heat pump already been completely disconnected from the mains? If so, you can often reduce the risk by reconnecting the power and leaving the heat pump in standby mode for as long as the manufacturer recommends before restarting it.
A simple preventive measure that saves both money and downtime.
